The Hunger Challenge: Can you eat for $4 a day? I am not sure I can, but I am going to try!

The Hunger Challenge 2009What the heck people! Why is that there are people in the one of the richest countries in the world that have to eat on $4 a day! Is that even possible? I am not really sure. Are you?

In a few weeks I am going to find out. I am taking on the Hunger Challenge, September 20-26. I am going to try to eat for just $4 a day! The average amount Californians on food stamps have to spend on a day’s meals.

As part of the challenge I am going to donate what I would have spend on lunch, dinner, sodas, Starbucks and all the other food related items I buy everyday.  UPDATE: Since Miriam’s kitchen was the focus of the recent Twestival, I have decided donate to capital area food bank instead.

Are you going to join me? No? Yes? Try it for a day? Maybe not? What every you decide you can support the Hunger Challenge by making a donation to capital area food bank, a food bank in your local area, or maybe volunteer to help feed people in your community.

I know that me taking on this challenge is not going to change the world, but I am hoping to draw a little bit of attention the issue of hunger here in the US.

Follow along as I make it (hope to make it) though the week of September 20-26, eating for $4 a day.
